Potters and Teachers need equipment that lasts. When Thomas Stuart designed their line of potter's wheels they looked at every aspect of the wheel in terms of function and durability. The two founders were working Studio Potters and had a great understanding of the stress and abuse potter’s wheels can be subjected to under real world situations.
The Body The body of the wheels are constructed of solid cast Aluminum. With no welds to crack it stays as structurally sound as the day you bought it. The heavy cast aluminum construction gives the wheel a sense of stability that you will find with no other wheel.
The Splash Pan The Built-in Splash Pans are cast right into the body as one piece. Again, no welds and no leaks. The Removable Splash Pans are still one piece. There are no tabs to break and no seams to leak. It is a thickly cast so it will hold up to dropping and other general abuse it may have to endure.
The Motor The bottom line is big motors, with big brushes and big magnetos last longer then small motors. When you compare horsepower to horsepower, we usesubstantially bigger motors then the competition. It also has a built in fan which keeps the motor cool. Cooler motors last longer. The Drive Belt The Drive Belt is a six groove heavy duty belt. The more grooves the less slippage. The less slippage the less wear on the belt. Some people may call it overkill, we don’t think so.
